🧪 Process Manufacturing & Distribution

From Powder to Platform:
Automating Chemical Batches

How a fast-growing construction chemical brand gained 99% batch traceability and automated their entire distribution network.

Rex Bond Product Range

The Client: Rex Bond

Rex Bond is a rapidly growing name in the construction chemical industry, specializing in high-performance tile adhesives, grouts, and epoxy systems. They produce a diverse range of chemical products that require precise formulation and strict quality consistency.

Serving a network of 100+ distributors and large-scale contractors, they manage a complex supply chain involving volatile raw materials (polymers, cement, additives) and a high-velocity finished goods output.

The Operational Bottleneck

In the chemical industry, consistency is currency. Rex Bond's rapid growth exposed cracks in their manual processes. Managing complex formulas in spreadsheets was becoming a liability.

Recipe Variance

Formulas (BOMs) were trapped in Excel. Workers occasionally used outdated recipe versions, leading to batch inconsistency.

Traceability Gaps

If a customer reported a defect, tracing it back to the specific raw material batch used was nearly impossible.

Distribution Chaos

Sales teams promised delivery dates without knowing if the required chemical additives were in stock to start production.

Pricing Errors

Manual invoicing led to errors in applying distributor-specific discounts and schemes, causing payment disputes.

The Solution Architecture

Phase 1: Formula Digitization

We migrated all chemical recipes into ERPNext Bills of Material (BOMs). This ensured that only the approved "Golden Recipe" could be used for production planning.

Phase 2: Batch Inventory

Enabled Batch Tracking for all raw materials (expiry management) and finished goods. This created a full traceability chain from Vendor -> Factory -> Customer.

Phase 3: Quality Control

Integrated Quality Inspection templates. Raw materials (e.g., Cement grade) are now quarantined upon arrival until they pass lab tests in the ERP.

Phase 4: Automated Distribution

Configured "Pricing Rules" for different distributor tiers. Invoices now auto-calculate prices and taxes based on the customer group.

"Exalix Tech understood our specific needs as a chemical manufacturer. Before ERPNext, we were flying blind on raw materials. Now, we have total control over our formulas and distribution. It's the foundation of our growth."

Common Questions

How does ERPNext handle batch expiry?

ERPNext tracks the 'Date of Manufacture' and 'Expiry Date' for every batch. It supports FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) picking strategies, ensuring that older chemicals are used or sold before they spoil.

Can we manage multiple product variants?

Yes. ERPNext's Item Variants feature is perfect for products like adhesives that come in different weights (20kg, 40kg) or types (Type 1, Type 2) while sharing common raw materials.
